Lodge Hill Shiraz on a winning streak

Consistency has always been integral to our family’s winemaking philosophy and we are proud to share that our Lodge Hill Shiraz has received a throng of awards from the Australian Wine Show circuit over the last 5 years.

First released in 2001, the Lodge Hill Shiraz is a favourite among many red wine drinkers –It expresses the many individual characteristics of the various blocks of vines selected to create this wine, from basil, licorice and pepper, through to plums, cherries and blueberries.

The wine is reliable and recognised by its purple and silver stripy cap – a signature of our Jim Barry brand! Its consistency has been recognised in Australia, being awarded the “Consistency of Excellence” medal at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards in 2019 and 2018.

In 1977 when we first purchased the Lodge Hill property, my father’s intention was to devote the entire site to Riesling. However, he found an area on the north side of the ridge which captured longer and warmer exposure to sunlight and decided that it was an ideal place to grow a premium Shiraz.

The Lodge Hill Vineyard was originally a pastoral run named Wolta Wolta and is located on the Eastern Ranges of the Clare township.
