The Armagh

  • 1964

    Jim and Nancy Barry purchased 28 hectares of land from Duncan McRae Wood that would become the Armagh vineyard.

    Jim Barry commences planting the western half of the vineyard to Cabernet Sauvignon and malbec.

  • 1968

    Jim Barry plants the higher, north-easterly section of the vineyard with the very finest shiraz clone.

  • 1983

    Peter Barry visits Bordeaux and completes his first vintage in France at Chateau Bauduc. On his return, Peter convinces the family to create a single vineyard, aspirational wine that will become the family winery's flagship shiraz, The Armagh.

  • 1985

    Mark Barry makes the first vintage of the first vintage of The Armagh and ages it in 6 new American oak barrels.

  • 1986

    The Barry family purchased the Florita vineyard. Mark and Peter Barry decide the second vintage is not good enough to release The Armagh.

  • 1989

    Peter Barry launches the 1985 vintage of The Armagh in the red centre of Australia to critical acclaim at Glen Helen Lodge on the banks of the Finke River, west of Alice Springs.
