Gold for 2011 The Lodge Hill Dry Riesling

There has been a lot of discussion about vintage 2011 but I believe that vintage in Clare for Riesling was excellent.

This statement was confirmed last week when our 2011 ‘The Lodge Hill’ Dry Riesling was awarded a gold medal in class 1 at the Brisbane Wine Show. Lodge Hill Riesling NV

Our ‘Watervale’ Riesling received the only silver in this class.

There were only two gold medals awarded and the trophy covering this class was presented to the other gold medal winner- Pewsey Vale Vineyards for their 2011 Pewsey Vale Riesling.

Congratulations to our friends in Eden Valley.

Judges Comments:

‘Obviously a challenging year for Riesling production. Too much hard acid evident, lack of varietal flavour and evidence of disease. Top wines showing elegance and flavour.’

We are proud to own two very special Riesling sites in the Clare Valley; the ‘Lodge Hill’ Vineyard and the ‘Florita’ Vineyard at Watervale.

‘Lodge Hill’ produced this gold medal winning wine as well as the 2010 vintage which was awarded the Douglas Lamb Perpetual Trophy at the 2011 Sydney Wine Show. These back to back wins demonstrate the consistency of this vineyard.

Our Watervale Riesling comes from the ‘Florita’ Vineyard which we have now owned Florita for 25 years- a quarter of a century flies!

In the face of a challenging year, these vineyards have proven their true worth and Jim Barry Wines’ commitment to owning our vineyards.

It demonstrates absolutely that seriously good Riesling comes from Clare and Watervale.
